Privacy Policy

1. Information we collect

Account information: name, email, phone, password credentials and account type.

Homeowner project information: project description, photographs, optional measurements, budget range, timing, city, partial postal code and — stored privately — the exact street address and contact details.

Contractor information: business name and registration details, contact name, Google Business Profile, years in business, service areas, insurance details and certificates, identity and credential documents, portfolio photos.

Marketplace activity: bids, messages, selections, reviews, success fee payments and legal acknowledgement records including the document version accepted, the wording shown, the timestamp and browser user agent.

2. How we use it

To operate the marketplace: matching projects to contractors, formatting and displaying bids, enabling messaging, verifying contractors, calculating and collecting success fees, preventing fraud and circumvention, and maintaining a legally defensible record of consent.

To communicate with you about your projects, bids and account, and — where you have not opted out — about the service.

3. What contractors can and cannot see

Before selection and payment, contractors see the project scope, photos, an approximate location such as city and partial postal code, and non-identifying details. They do not see your exact street address, full name, phone number or email.

After you select a contractor and that contractor pays the success fee, your name, address, phone and email are released to that contractor only.

4. Verification documents

Identity documents, insurance certificates and credential documents are stored in private storage accessible only to the submitting contractor and BuildBids administrators. They are never shown to homeowners or other contractors.

5. Service providers

We use third-party providers for hosting, database and authentication, and for processing success fee payments. Payment card details are handled by the payment processor and are never stored by BuildBids.

6. Retention

Marketplace records, transaction snapshots and legal acceptance records are retained for as long as needed to operate the service and to meet legal, tax and evidentiary obligations. Acceptance records are immutable and are retained even if an account is closed.

7. Your rights

Subject to applicable Canadian privacy legislation, you may request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal information by emailing support@buildbids.ca. Some records, including legal acceptance logs and payment records, must be retained.

8. Security

Access to data is controlled by row-level security policies so that users can reach only their own records. No system is perfectly secure; you are responsible for keeping your credentials confidential.
